further eductation for everybody! a double feature of advanced vocational training.

in the first part of our show gilbertandgrape invite us to join a drawing lesson:

“During 2009 GilbertandGrape are closing down, reprocessing all their things and returning the Moose to the Sunset. As we do this we invite you to join us on the Radia broadcast to take part in drawing exercises. On the special Radia broadcast we will draw one of our things together with our radio broadcast audience. We will then pass the object into our local economy for further use by giving it to our nearest thrift store.

HOW TO BE WITH US DURING THIS EVENT
GilbertandGrape will sketch the object in front of the microphone. Making the drawing on a chart ruled off into many squares. Radio listeners provide themselves with a similar chart and when GilbertandGrape announce the line is going through a certain numbered square the listners can then duplicate this on their own grid.

YOU WILL NEED

1x A4 paper with 3cm grid (DOWNLOAD at www.gilbertandgrape.co.uk or draw your own)
1x pencil

Each drawing exercise takes approx 15mins.

RECYCLE YOUR DRAWINGS
Post us your drawings: Closing Down c/o gilbertandgrape, Soundart Radio, The Gallery, Dartington, Devon, TQ9 6EJ, UK or email them to drawing@gilbertandgrape.co.uk”

gilbertandgrape is a collaborative project between Helen Pritchard (UK) and Anne-Marte Eidseth Rygh (N). Established in 2003 the artists share a background in performance writing at Dartington College of Arts, UK.
Find more info at www.gilbertandgrape.co.uk

afterwards we’ll get another chance to improve our skills in speaking tibetan:

“Learning Tibetan is produced by Echo Ho and Hannes Hoelzl, collectively known as earweego.
The programme finds Echo and Hannes celebrating the Tibetan new year with Tibetans in Germany and turns into a crash course of the Tibetan language.”

Find more on (and of) earweego at www.earweego.net

[english]

counting time.
from now on backwards - as you never now how to count on the future?
or not counting anymore anyway - for eternity is not calculable in the end?

two possible answers to these questions:
to the first one by inhabitants of two refugee camps in amman, jordania. collected by jörg köppl, peter zazec, and fawzy emrany.
to the second one by lemurone from radio lemurie. not a counting, but rather an acount. in sound.

on “counting years”:

counting years is based on a radio and sound art project that took place in 2007 in amman, the capital city of jordan, in the framework of ‘no condition is permament’- an art project in public space initiated by the swiss artist rayelle niemann.
it is for the first time that ammann encouners interventions in public space, conducted by artists from jordan, egypt, palestine, lebanon, and switzerland.

during their stay of one month jörg köppl and peter zazec worked together with the artist fawzy emrany from gaza - and people from palestine living in two of the thirteen long term refugee camps existing in jordan.
the three artists asked inhabitants of the camps - some of them being already the third generation growing up in jordan - to count years, starting with the year of their birth into the future and finishing with a year oft their personal choice.
the voices were sorted by duration of counting and piled together to a show that was broadcasted on radio ammannet, the first internet radio of the arab world (founded in 2000).
for a second version, the piece was enriched with the jingle the small gas delivery trucks in amman use, and played for two days via the speakers of two of these trucks.

the piece for radia is the third version, a radio edition created by jörg köppl in april 2009 for radiator x - radio art @ radio x and radia.fm.
special thx by miss.gunst for the collaboration!

miss.gunst is musing elsewhere. therefore, we invite you again to join us for a studio visit at william furlong’s.
with the ghost voices of: achim lengerer, dani gal, william furlong, and many other artists. and,of course, miss.gunst…

in the early 1970ies the british artist started to map the terrain of contemporary art by collecting acoustic data. his recordings and interviews became the medium of his artistic practice and the basis of a life long research.
for their project “relational view” achim lengerer and dani gal visited william furlong in his archive of sounds and voices. later the recordings of this visit were transformed into an audio space.
today achim lengerer will join us in the studio. together we’ll enter the room.

find more info on “relational view” at smart project space www.smartprojectspace.net/works/2303.xml

[english]

visiting markets in vienna.

starting with listening to the brunnenmarkt (’fountain market’) - regarding the lively place as such, an astonishingly calm experience:

“Time-transformations are obliged to music and sonic reception. […] On July
19th 2008 the soundartist Stephan Roth focussed his microphones for 12 hours soberly onto the Brunnenmarkt in Vienna, a local fruit- and vegetables market. He subverts gently the receptiveness of the listeners by transforming the 12 hours recording footage into one slow dynamic wave of 27minutes. Transformation without reduction.” [S.R.]

thus continuing with another walk over the noizebazar seems to be a good idea.

“you will hear the sounds of the fermentation process of the tinctura artis, an art project of the gryasnaya galerya (petersburg) at the institute for transacoustic research (vienna). very pure.” [mdc]

as a special insert: a birthday jingle by and for radia.fm!
