Der vortrag wirft einen Blick zurück nach vorn: Ausgehend von historischen Beispielen aus der Kultur- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie "philosophisches Spielzeug" heute aussieht und funktioniert. Passend zum Fokus von Shiny Toys liegt dabei das Augenmerk auf (shiny, shiny) OptOsONical PhilOsOphical TOys.

Als Philosophical Toys (Philosophisches Spielzeug) bezeichnet man Objekte und Instrumente, die Funktionsweisen, Prozesse und Wirkungszusammenhänge sinnlich wahrnehmbar und spielerisch begreifbar machen: Sie sind weniger Endprodukte als Werkzeuge der Erkenntnis und der Imagination.

The lecture takes a look back to look forward: Starting with selected examples from the history of science and culture we will ask how Philosophical Toys work today. According to the Shiny Toys Festival’s scope, the focus is directed on (shiny, shiny) OptOsONical PhilOsOphical TOys.

"Philosophical Toys" is a term used for objects and instruments enabling us to understand processes, functions, relations and effects, closely related to processes of active research, experiment and knowledge production. Rather than being products, they are instruments of imagination, insight and invention.
