((o)) radiator x – 120412 – (un)homely nights

rxl_k.gif(un)homely nights radia #364 suite 106 + radia #256 the nocturnal state of the city

at night, not only the sight is changing. so are the sounds. what used to be familiar may become strange. (un)homely or not? that's difficult to decide. however, we'll listen…

in the first part of the show, we'll spend a night with gonçalo alegria in a hotel suite – in lisbon or elsewhere? all we know is the room number, 106:

"This piece is made in a specific environment, in an hotel room, with a set of actions, being in a place and enjoying its monotonous nature. Hotel rooms are not about being productive, they are made to numb you and force you to rest. Because I travel a lot, and spending time alone inside this type of rooms and out of boringness I started playing with it. The room itself becomes something new, something that I can relate to. This kind of set up consists of working with what you have available with you, for an invisible performance where you play with sound and situation. Materials used: double-bass bow, paper tape, bathroom, exhauster, glass, mineral water, effervescent aspirin, tv set, shower doors, digital recorder Tascam DR-100, headphones, water tap, ac unit, room phone and mobile phone. The same kind of thing can be done inside the train toilet, but it is riskier to set the recording gear and perform at the same time." [G.A.]

afterwards, we'll visit dimitar dodovski in skopje who listened to the silent streets, to sleeping machines and dreaming apparatuses in his house:

"this piece of radia composition is made of lofi noises, crackles and subtle dubscapes which from the artist's view depict the nocturnal state of the city. inside the house where hums and noises from electronic appliances are generated and outside where distant sounds occupy space, reverbed voices from insomniacs, lovers and lonesome whistlers fill in the silence."[d.d.]

miss.gunst would like to thank the following artists and sound collectors:
jovica for the space machine, corsica s for some beautiful radiator sounds;
gonçalo alegria and radio zero, lisbon, for a nightly visit to suite 106;

as well as radia.fm radio art network for being a crowd of incredibly creative partners.

((o)) radiator x – 120328 – sailing away

rxl_k.gifsailing away radia #362 le voyage loin + radia #233 why don't you go home

sailing the oceans. far away. and perhaps: without return.

in the first part of the show we're invited by meryll hardt to a sailing trip letting us float over unknown oceans:

"Playlist: Anvers exotique (soundscape) – A life on the Ocean Waves -Etoile Morte – Fascination – Lichtspiel – La dérive d’Ophelia – Genetic Catwalk. All compositions by Meryll Hardt, except 'A life on the Ocean waves' (Henry Russell, 1833) and 'Fascination' (Marquetti, 1932)
All productions by Meryll Hardt, except 'Fascination', played by Joe Loss and his Orchestra, lyrics and interpretation from Meryll Hardt.
She defines herself as a fluid, whose energy collapses with any moving medium.
Fake harmony, predictable confusion, falling and laughing are her connexion to a larger thinking on art itself.
When an egg cutter becomes a gamelan, when the docks of Antwerp sound like africa, Meryll Hardt is travelling for us. Far away, so close." [m.h./r.c.]

afterwards, we'll listen for another time to the story of a voyage without return:

"Donald Crowhurst set sail from Teignmouth, South Devon UK, in the autumn of 1968 on a non-stop round-the-world sailing race in his trimaran 'Teignmouth Electron'. One of nine competitors, Crowhurst saw his initial high hopes for fame and glory dashed when lack of time, a poorly equipped boat and inexperience all conspired against him. With the realisation that neither he nor the boat were up to the trip came desperation, which led to a faked voyage, a breakdown and ultimately his death …" [c.m.-r.]

miss.gunst would like to thank the following artists and sound collectors:
jovica for the space machine, corsica s for some beautiful radiator sounds;
meryll hardt and radio campus, brussels, for sailing away with us;
cathryne morgan-richards and radio soundArt, darlington, for rowing us, in contrast to her unlucky hero, homewards again;
as well as radia.fm radio art network for being a crowd of incredibly creative partners.

((o)) GUNSTradio – 16.03.2012 – zeitsprünge | time leaps

lgb-gtik.gifzeitsprünge | time leaps

what are time leaps? how do they happen? and how it is possible to make them productive – if they are, first of all, rifts and ruptures in time that make you stumble, experience the loss of synch and thus the threat of not longer being able to keep pace with the rhytm, of falling out of time?

"time leaps" is part of the series TIME BENDING CLOCK RADIO.
TIME BENDING CLOCK RADIO is radio on time.
since summer 2010, TIME BENDING CLOCK RADIO is one of the active mechanisms of the TIME BENDING CLOCK, a research project and tool looking at alternate theories and practices of measuring time, operating at the intersections of art, media, cultural history and the history of science.

((o)) radiator x – 120315 – monsters

rxl_k.gifmonsters radia #361 monstres + radia #289 beasty noise

who is afraid of monsters?

well, not us. because today we'll meet some extra nice monsters. first some of french origin, brought to us by bololipsum:

"Not so far, they are there, in a parallel world. This nature documentary enters a virtual world, not far from us, the home of these mutants sounds, these beings are the result of errors and bugs. 'Monstres' offers a journey through programs and electronic circuits, between 1 and 0, in this crack, at the sandstone of chance where they live, hidden as monsters." [B/R.G.]

find out more about bololipsium at www.bololipsum.com

afterwards, we'll meet another time with some noisy monsters making beasty noises for the 2010 edition of the legendary reheat festival:

"an atmospheric summary of the reheat festival 2010 at kleylehof, austria. this year's topic was 'monsters'.
it's a mixture of recordings made before and during the festival: soundcapes, concerts, installations, performances and statements of artists and festival visitors." [b.k.]

the show was produced by barbara kaiser and includes festival contributions by alfred stohl, lupe, sabine marte, skylla, peter brandlmayr, joerg piringer, monc/ink, doris kern & klaus filip.

((o)) radiator x – 120308 – eat it!

rxl_k.gifeat it! radia #360 kunst und brot + radia #237 reheat the schnitzel

Kunst und Brot: in the first part of this show we're invited to take place at the table with an slowenian-international artist's collective to think and talk about the daily art and bread. consume as basic necessity?

"In 2012 Cirkulacija 2 collective returns to the habit of using language as medium for communication – and publicly: a format denoted as 'salon' as aesthetic outlet. In the first instalment we prepared a radio show discussion hopefully touching some of the important conceptual approaches regarding the public appearances of Cirkulacija 2. While more abstractly coded radio broadcast could be used, we decided for the more basic approach – the discussion, the talk.
The composition (of dicussion) was defined as open-minded, and with it we wanted to force upon us the topics that could potentially be emotional – or: the topics would have to be emotionally solved. It is of course the question of individuals’ different views on some very basic approaches.
The dynamics of a group over the years is a varying organism. Some things get forgotten, some topics get consumed, there is a constant fight against boredom and disillusionment. Some rituals and definitions have to be changed – and some new introduced. The production of meaning – the ideology?"

afterwards, we'll serve again a very special meal with a schnitzelessen coming from the complex cuisine of the legendary reheat festival:

"This years REHEAT festival's theme was 'electromagnetism' and therefore an ideal place to capture sounds for a radio show. The proceedings of the whole day included video installations, gps guided tours, lectures, many concerts and much more. The best way to represent this multitude was to send all recordings through the cut-up software called 'Schnitzel' written by one of the festivals co-organizers Dieb13. It was a great festival, next year you should go there in person. Until then there is this show." [K.A.]

weathers. elements. states of matter.
measurable. in time. thus we're measuring them. in time. at the same time we know: measuring and sensing is two different things.

((o)) radiator x – 120105 – re:religion

rxl_k.gifre:religion radia #351 global prayers religion'n'roll + radia #317 alarmist plot

talking about religion? remember gretchen's question in goethe's faust?
a playback rather than an answer, no? first with religion'n' roll by piko be from berlin, produced for the exhibition "global prayers":

"Piko Be’s Religion’n'Roll Radio – Tobias Yves Zintel, Pollyester, Polyversal Souls Impressions of St. Agnes in Berlin, Kreuzberg – rent by a congregation named 'Citykirche'. Memories of The Church Of The Little Green Man – a gathering place for artists and outlaws. Sounds of the Theaterkapelle in Berlin, Friedrichshain – an eventspace, where also burials are taking place." [DMCC]

and afterwards – perfectly matching with the beginning of the new year – a follow-up by maxime blanpain from brussels with some dark prophecies from the mayan calendar:

"Some people say there are only 609 days left for human kind (according to the Maya calendar). Others pretend the Last Judgment is ongoing. Then that is little time to read again Mathew (24-25) or the Book of Revelations. This work started with the will to use the words of a preacher i recorded few years ago in Basel (CH).
Not that i wanted to discuss the relevance/rightness of an apocalyptic preach, but something in that speech had to be pursued.
That led me to associate the vehemence of the first part with a second one more breathing and rather speechless. Now, that breath of air could either sketch an interpretation of the Noah's journey on his arch (mentioned by the preacher), or be a response to the alarmists passion, or be a free space of no-response needed." [M.B.]

talking about religion? the anser is yours.

RadioGarten | RadioGarden

City gardens and urban gardening are high in trend. As recent initiatives for community gardens and other activities (like i.e. the so called "guerilla gardening") can show, this new (or renewed) interest in gardening is not only motivated by individual desires, but strongly informed by ecological and social engagement as well.

[[:]] GUNST Netzlabel-Lieblinge 2011

Vibe From The Korg Electribe
